Enhancing literacy development in European languages. (ELDEL)

The scientific aims of the ELDEL project are: - to produce a model elucidating the relationships among psychological (psycholinguistic, cognitive) and environmental (orthographic, linguistic, educational/instructional, cultural) factors determining the development of literacy skills in European languages, and - to uncover the key components of an effective, culture-appropriate intervention program for the prevention and remediation of literacy problems in the languages under study. The research program comprises a number of overlapping cross-linguistic studies that will reveal the language-specific and language-general factors affecting literacy development. This multidisciplinary network includes partners with expertise in developmental, educational, and clinical psychology, experimental psycholinguistics, speech and language therapy, and an industrial partner specializing in the creation of software for the assessment and training of literacy skills. Each partner will also contribute to the network’s training aims, to provide training in generic as well as in state-of-the-art domain-specific research skills.

La UGR participa en tres proyectos (WP) dentro de la red. El WP1 es un estudio longitudinal que trata de comprender los procesos de adquisición de la lectura y escritura español, desde una perspectiva translingüística, en comparación con las demás lenguas que participan en la red. El WP3 se centra en los programas de intervención para la mejora de las habilidades lectoras, en particular el vocabulario y su relación con la comprensión lectora. El WP5 se centra en estudiar el papel que juega el aprendizaje implícito en el aprendizaje de la lectura, de la escritura y, en particular, en la dislexia.
A través de la difusión de los resultados y de los instrumentos de evaluación e intervención, no solo se espera tener impacto en la comunidad científica sino también en el mundo profesional del ámbito psicoeducativo y de la logopedia. Se espera un avance en la explicación de los procesos de desarrollo normal de las habilidades de lectura y escritura y también de sus dificultades, en particular dislexia y disgrafía. Así mismo, se espera un impacto en la dimensión aplicada en los profesionales que trabajan en el diagnóstico, la enseñanza, la mejora de las habilidades de lectura y escritura, entre otros.
